Android Wear update brings Wi-Fi support, always-on apps news
The bottom line is that Honor has put together a decent phone that gives you an 18:9 screen which looks like a flagship for far less than flagship prices. Read our Honor 7X review. 8. Huawei P Smart With a decent 18:9 screen, the P Smart is a fine Android phone that should appeal to anyone looking for a cheap contract phone. However, the fact it’s so similar to the Honor 9 Lite (which costs £30 less when bought SIM-free) makes it hard to recommend, especially as the Honor has a couple of extra features – dual SIM and a second front camera – which the Huawei lacks. Read our Huawei P Smart review.
9. UMIDIGI S2 Pro The S2 Pro from UMIDIGI offers amazing value at just a touch over £200 thanks to its large 18:9 display, huge battery and capacious internal storage. Performance and photography are adequate, making this an excellent budget- to mid-range choice, and worth considering as an alternative to the Moto G6 if you need the extra storage or dual-SIM capability. Read our UMIDIGI S2 Pro review. 10. Xiaomi Mi Max 3 If you want a huge screen on a budget, without going the whole hog and purchasing a tablet, we can think of no better example than the Mi Max 3. Now with improved performance, a second camera lens at the rear and a huge 6.9 18:9 display, it’s a worthy upgrade on the Mi Max 2 – and still just as affordable.

Read our Xiaomi Mi Max 3 review. 11. Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 A big screen and a low price are paired with decent battery life, usable performance and an enhanced dual-camera in the Redmi Note 5. There are some drawbacks, such as the old Micro-USB port, lack of Quick Charge support and partly plastic build, but in other respects budget phones don’t come much better than this. ONNOVEMBER 27 "XIAOMI MI 8 LITE REVIEW" Xiaomi Mi 8 Lite Review Belonging to Xiaomi’s flagship Mi 8 family but with a lower spec and more affordable price, the Mi 8 Lite has a lot to offer the mid-range smartphone market. At last Xiaomi’s phones are officially available in the UK, and along with the Mi 8 Pro (reviewed) this Lite version is one of the first to launch here. Also see: Best Xiaomi Deals Mi 8 Lite Price & UK availability Following a China launch in September the Mi 8 Lite officially launched in London on 8 November 2018.
There are two models of the Mi 8 Lite, with the 4GB RAM, 64GB storage model (reviewed here) retailing at £259, and the 6GB RAM, 128GB storage model retailing at £279. You can buy the Mi 8 Lite directly from the Mi UK store (or in branch at its outlet in London’s Westfield Shopping Centre), or from UK vendors such as Amazon, Argos and eBuyer. At the time of writing eBuyer has the cheapest price at £224.97. You will find the Mi 8 Lite cheaper in China. The 4GB RAM model currently costs £214.11 at GearBest, while the 6GB RAM version is cheaper still thanks to a flash sale at £206.18. However, remember that when you factor in import duty (20% of the value on the shipping paperwork) the difference is not so great. And buying within the UK from an approved stockist you will have an easier ride should something go wrong with your purchase. That said, we thoroughly recommend GearBest, but advise you to purchase a ‘Global’ model else you will need to install Google Play services yourself and it may lack support for 800MHz (Band 20) 4G LTE (of major importance only if you’re on a network that relies solely on this band for 4G, such as O2, GiffGaff and Sky Mobile).
Should I buy the Mi 8 Lite or Mi A2? There is very little difference in price between this Mi 8 Lite and the Mi A2 (reviewed).
